Beauty Steal! Anastasia Beverly Hills Lustrous Lip Gloss Set

With the holidays right around the corner, you better believe all those holiday sets, palettes and value sets are showing up left and right. To be honest, the holidays are a great time for you to purchase beauty products (for yourself or whomever, no one is judging). Why? Because usually companies do price certain sets and bundles for a great value, especially when you take the time to price everything out individually. One great example of this is the set I'm going talk about in my post today. 

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Lustrous Lip Gloss Set will run you $40.00 for eight lip glosses. Not two or even five...EIGHT glosses! OK, let me put it to you this way, one Lustrous lip gloss from ABH will cost you $16.00. Purchasing these eight glosses individually will run you $128.00 and this set is only $40.00, which means it's only $5.00 a gloss! So if you like at least three of the colors found in this lovely package, you already will have your money's worth. Even if you only liked two of the shades and were meh about the rest, these would be great stocking stuffers for family and friends. Just tie a cute ribbon on it and call it a day. The value of this set is ridiculous when you realize the price difference.

When it comes to the quality of the glosses, these are excellent. The set varies from sheer to jelly to opaque pigmentation so you have plenty to suit whatever mood you are in. They smell like divine vanilla frosting, while I may love it you may not. The packaging is simply but still lovely with the traditional ABH logo and a shiny black cap. As for the longevity, I have to say it's pretty on point. I can wear this the beginning of my work shift and three plus hours later when I head to lunch, the gloss is still noticeable and looks good.

Review: Take a Break From Matte Lips and Embrace YSL's Volupte Tint-In-Oil!

As much as I love a matte lip, I feel as if this trend has been in the spotlight for quite some time. My lips have been feeling a bit drier as of late, especially since I've been out in the sun more, so I wanted to give my lips a break from sporting the matte lip and give it some much needed hydration and moisture.

I had purchased the Yves Saint Laurent Volupte Tint-In-Oil ($32.00 USD) a few months back when it was colder. I didn't really use it as much since I hate smudging lip products all over my scarves. So it sat waiting patiently in my drawer, until now. I feel like this is a perfect lip gloss or the summer. It doesn't feel heavy, leaves your lips feeling hydrated, and also leaves a nice stain.

The product comes housed in YSL's beautiful packaging, So not only are you paying top dollar for the product, you're paying for the packaging. The silver tube looks luxurious and is embossed with the infamous YSL logo. The logo coloring depends on what shade you decide upon. Since I decided on Pink About Me 8, my tube comes with a pink stripe. I can't but feel glam every time I whip it out of my purse.

As far as application, you can apply it as lightly or as liberally as you want. The applicator is a unique shape and gives not only great precision but also applies the product uniformly. I don't need to dip the applicator back into the tube to get more product. However, if I do want to make my lips extra glossy, I can apply two coats. Once applied, this product is not sticky at all but feels smooth and buttery. It immediately makes my lips look plumper and fills my lip lines which I'm all for. You can even top a lipstick with this lip oil to give it high shine and some additional moisture.

There are many reviews that complain about the lack of color when it comes to this lip oil and with some the shades I do agree. YSL touts this as a "revolutionary lip color" yet some of these shades will look the same on your lips, especially if you have pigmented lips like I do. I settled on Pink About Me because it was one of the deeper colors but I originally had my eye on Undress Me, thinking it would be a pinky nude, but when I swatched this in the store, it was pretty much a clear gloss. So I would say, if you are unsure of the shade you want, go to the store and test the colors before you make the decision.

The other complaint I've seen people have is the fact this is not very long lasting. I didn't expect this to be long lasting, especially since it's not a tacky gloss. However, I can see why people would not want to shell out money for a product that doesn't last very long. For me, this can last up to 3 hours with no eating or drinking.

I am absolutely in love with the YSL Volupte Tint-In-Oil. If I could, I would definitely purchase all the shades. Lip oils, especially this one, are a lovely addition to a collection. While I may not be able to get all the shades, this will be a definite repurchase for me once I finished this tube.

Review: Maybelline Color Sensational Color Elixir in Petal Push and Nude Illusion

I had originally purchased these Maybelline Color Elixirs first but fell in love with the L'Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinary lip glosses more (check my post here!). Now that being said, this isn't a bad product at all. It all depends on what you are looking for. Compared to the L'Oreal counterpart, these are sheerer. I prefer more opaque glosses that only take one to two coats as opposed to two or more. These Maybelline Color Elixirs took me two to three coats to get the opacity I like but then it felt slightly heavy because I had so many coats on. 

When it comes to the scent, it smells sweet, like a vanilla candy, but with a floral background. It's definitely not for those who prefer lighter scents. There is a slight tack to the product but nothing obnoxious. I didn't notice any peeling on my lips but this does go on much better if your lips are smooth as they tend to settle in lip lines. The packaging itself is, cute. It's not my favorite, but that's because I prefer sleeker, more sophisticated packing. This tends to lean more towards teen, young adult in my opinion.

The wand is excellent. It allows for precise application on all lip sizes. It also picks up enough product for one full application which is nice. Out of the two I picked up, I enjoy both colors. They are great for every day and for people of all ages (despite the packaging). 

All in all, I enjoy these glosses but they didn't make me jump out of my seat. Unless there is a color I really want or has excellent reviews, I don't think I will be repurchasing these.

First Impression: L'Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinary Lip Color

I saw these beautiful little golden bullets on display in my local Walgreens and instantly went, "oooooh." After Maybelline released their Color Elixirs (impression on that soon!) L'Oreal followed suit and came out with their own version. It's their Colour Riche Extraordinary Lip Color. There are 16 shades total, ranging of nudes to pinks to oranges to reds to purples. Basically there is something for everyone. The packaging feels very luxurious but as with all gold/shiny things, it gets fingerprints very easily. The bullet displays the color on the side which is very true to the product color. Another thing I noticed and loved was the names of all the shades. Each had a play on music, like Rose Melody or Plum Adagio. How cute is that?

Out of all the shades, I chose the two that would be most wearable to me. I don't get fancy very often and on most days I just like to look put together so I decided on 101 Rose Melody and 601 Nude Ballet. I am so happy with the choices I picked. Both are very pigmented and apply beautifully. I was afraid Nude Ballet would not show up on my lips at all but it definitely mutes my pigmented lips just enough. Rose Melody is a warm rose-y pink that gives me a polished look. 

As with all L'Oreal lip products, there is a scent. I find it very pleasant but it can be overpowering for those who have sensitive noses. Compared to the Maybelline Elixirs, these tend to be more floral while the Maybelline ones are a little sweeter. Both don't bother me but it's definitely something to take into consideration if you are looking to purchase either one. The staying power depends per person. If you are a lip licker I don't see these lasting very long since they are not tacky at all. For me these lasted about two hours which is pretty decent for a gloss.

Rose Melody and Nude Ballet

So far I am really enjoying these. I have seen swatches of the reds and oranges and those are beautiful as well. Between the Maybelline Elixirs and the L'Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinary lip color, I prefer the L'Oreal. It wins in pigmentation hands down and over looks more sophisticated. Have you tried these? Review: NYX Butter Gloss

I should have stated this as a product rave because I am totally digging these NYX Butter Glosses! I purchased six out of the 12 shades and really love each one. Plus, who can not love the name Butter Gloss? With scrumptious names like Apple Strudel, Peaches and Cream and Eclair, it's very hard to resist these budget friendly glosses. So of course I end up with six instead of just one or two. 

The texture of these are smooth and buttery and only have a bit of tack to help with the lasting power. When I have these glosses on, my lips feel moisturized. Once the gloss fades or is wiped off, my lips feel soft and smooth. No peeling lips here! As for the pigmentation, I love these. Some of the glosses, like Creme Brulee and Maple Blondie, are more sheer while the darker shades like Peach Cobbler are bold and opaque. The sheer glosses mute my pigmented lips just enough and are great for everyday. Sometimes I'll even use these to layer over my lipstick for a milky pout. If you want a more pigmentation, choose one of the darker shades. These do have a sweet scent which dissipates after the gloss has been applied. I don't find it offensive or overly sweet but those who are sensitive may find it bothersome.

Review: Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss in Nude Candy

I took a stop by Ulta yesterday after a two month hiatus just to browse. Of course one never goes into Ulta and leaves empty handed. In the end, I left the store with some nail polishes and this little stunner of a lipgloss.

From what I've seen, Essence is pretty budget friendly, this gloss only cost me $2.49.  I had heard a bunch of awesome reviews about XXXL Shine Lipgloss in Nude Candy and being a nude pinky lip lover I knew this was one I would like. So I had been keeping an eye out for this to purchase but the last few times I visited Ulta this particular gloss was always sold out. Until yesterday that is!

Nude Candy is a pale milky pink that is quite similar to NARS Turkish Delight. When it's on my lips, I can't tell the difference in color. In the tubes, Turkish Delight has no shimmer while Nude Candy has some silver shimmer (sparkle) but when applied it's not visible. The color is pretty opaque and the smell is similar to fruit candy with a texture that is not sticky or very tacky. Perhaps the only issue I have with this as with most milky pink glosses is that the product does settle a bit into lip lines. You can't tell from far away but if you get uncomfortably close you'll be able to see the settling. The wear time is about two hours if I don't eat since the consistency is not tacky but that really doesn't bother me all that much. Some people may not enjoy the constant reapplication.

For those of you who love Turkish Delight but hate the smell and price of NARS glosses, you should give this a shot. I mean for $2.49 at least you won't feel guilty if you hate it!

Overall it's a lovely gloss. I definitely would try other colors from the line. With such an appealing price and quality product wrapped up into one, it's hard to not love these!

Makeup Revisited: Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Gloss

When Maybelline revamped their lip glosses, I ran over to the drugstore and purchased the four that appealed the most to me. I tried them out and honestly, forgot about them and left them in my drawer. I guess they weren't that impressionable to me at the time because if I had loved them, they would've been constantly used. So I left them alone until about last week when I was cleaning out my makeup stash. I decided to give them a second chance.

I'm so glad I did.

I don't know what was wrong with me the first time I tried these because I'm loving these right now. Maybe I wasn't in a gloss mood at the time, but these are great glosses! There are 12 different shades, some have shimmer while some are cream finishes. Out of the four I have, Iced Chocolate is the only shade that has shimmer. If you want to check these out, I would definitely take a close look to see which ones are shimmer or cream. You can't tell from the swatches on the Maybelline website, (insert sad Panda face.)

According to Maybelline, these are wax free and contain honey nectar. I don't know about all that, but these don't dry my lips or make them peel like some other glosses I've tried. Another big plus in my book for this product.

I also love that these glosses are creamy but not tacky. If you hate the tackiness of MAC lipglasses, then I think you would love these. The scent is fruity and doesn't linger after you apply. Another plus for me with these glosses is the fact I can wear these alone or layer them. I definitely love layering them with my lipsticks, especially ones that are too bright or pale for me. My current favorite lip combo has been this:

If you are interested in these glosses I'd highly recommend you try them. They're not as raved about but the quality is great. I don't think I'll get any more shades, but I would definitely repurchase when I'm finished!

Review: Maybelline Superstay 10 Hour Stain Gloss

When Maybelline announced their new line in the Superstay collection, I gravitated more towards their cream eyeshadows and lipsticks, staying away from the bright white packaging of their stain glosses. Eventually, I saw a sale at my CVS where it was a buy one get one half off and decided to finally try it. 

The reviews I had read before purchasing led to varying opinions of the product. Some bloggers hated it, while others claimed it was a possible dupe for the high end YSL Rouge Pur Couture. Having never tried the YSL liquid lipstick, I had no expectations of this being an amazing product. 

Upon arriving home, I peeled off the packaging (be sure to buy a sealed tube! I found plenty already with the seal removed, meaning gross and tampered gloss ::insert disgusted face::) and opened each tube to examine the contents. The first thing that hit me was the scent of the product. It's very fruity, in fact, it reminds me of a candy I used to eat, except I can't remember the name of it. Bottom line, if you're sensitive to sweet, fruity smells, you may not enjoy this product. The smell does go away after some time and it doesn't taste overly sweet, not that we should be eating our gloss anyway! ::looks guilty::

The skeptic in me highly doubted the 10 hour claim, and the skeptic in me was correct. I ate, drank and ate some more with this gloss on and while the sheen and glossiness of the product came away, it left a nice stain on my lips. It's the stain that lasts for quite a few hours, about five to six hours. In the end I had to scrub my lips to remove the remaining color. 

The texture of the gloss feels a bit like a liquid lipstick or stain and can seem drying to the lips. I do recommend NOT putting a balm before applying this if you want staying power. Not only will the balm cause the product to slip around, it will create a barrier, preventing the product from being absorbed by your lips.

Pink Plush -It's the lightest color out of the line and leans a little more red than pink. There is some shimmer but no grittiness when you press your lips together. While I do like this color a lot, it's the least glossy out of the three I purchased.

Ruby Indulgence -This is a beautiful red. It is also very opaque as you can tell from the swatch. Very glossy and leaves a beautiful cherry popsicle stain on your lips.

Mauve Dream - This isn't really a mauve color. In fact, I don't see any purple tones in this color at all. It's a very neutral color that I feel can be appropriate for any environment. This leaves the "just bitten"color to your lips.

Pros:
-Twist sealed packaging, longer self life
-Opaque colors
-Smooth application
-Leaves a nice stain for a few hours

Cons:
-Not a huge range of colors
-Does not live to the 10 hour claim
-Bulky packaging
-Applicator tip may be too large for those with thin, small lips

Would I Repurchase?
-High possibility because I do like the opacity and how smooth the product feels on my lips.

Review: NARS Wonder Lipgloss

"I have a fever, and the only prescription is more ORANGE lip products!"

Ok, I get it, not as epic as Christopher Walken and his cowbell, but darn it, I'm so into this orange lip phase for the summer.

The lipgloss I will be talking about today is the NARS Wonder lipgloss. Retailing at $24.00 USD for 0.28 oz, this mandarin orange gloss is truly beautiful. According the Sephora website, it's described as a sheer gloss laced with pink and gold shimmer.

Don't let the color of the gloss in the tube scare you, when you apply this gloss, it produces a watery, lush sheer orange, appealing to those who want to try the orange lip trend but are afraid of those opaque orange shades. The gloss is also buildable and can produce a more opaque color if you wish on those days you want to go bolder. There is no scent or taste to the product and on my lips, if I don't eat anything, it can last up to 3 hours.

If you can't find this color in your local Sephora or NARS counter, don't worry, this is not a limited edition color, it is just a part of the NARS Summer 2011 collection.

Revlon ColorBurst Lipgloss in Papaya

I recently purchased another ColorBurst lipgloss, this time, I went for Papaya. It's a beautiful bright coral red that looks pretty intimidating in the tube, however when you put it on, the color is absolutely beautiful. This is great for the spring/summer when you have a nice glow. Another thing I noticed about this gloss is that the shimmers are not as noticeable or gritty compared to Hot Pink and Peony. I guess it really depends on the shades whether or not the grittiness is there.

As you can see, the color looks super orange in the tube, which can scare some people however the color is sheered out when you put it on your lips.

Pros:

-Great for spring
-No grittiness
-Non-sticky
-Nice texture

Cons:
-May be too sheer for some
-Price - retails at $8 and up

Repurchase: This color? Yes especially now that I know the finish is great.

Review: Revlon Lipgloss in Peony and Hot Pink

When I saw the display of the lipglosses I bounced over to it and oohed and ahhed over it. Revlon has introduced the lipgloss version of their beloved and fabulous ColorBurst lipstick. With 15 shades there is some nice variety for everyone. After much debate I chose Peony and Hot Pink to try out. These glosses run about $8 USD in drugstores.

The packaging is sleek and very pretty. It comes with the same quilted pattern as the lipsticks so it adds a nice sophisticated flair to it. Revlon states that these lipglosses provide a ton of shine, more than "patent leather." Now while these are very shiny, the shimmer that's in it is really what makes it sparkle. After the gloss wears off you do have left over shimmer, which I'm not a big fan of.

 

The applicator is a flat doe foot brush that is flexible to allow you to get every crevice of your lips. The pigmentation depends on the shade that you get. Peony is very sheer and mutes my lips while Hot Pink provides a nice pop of color.

There is a slight scent, perhaps a vanilla scent to these glosses. It's not obnoxious and I really have to stick my nose close to the product to smell it. The gloss is not sticky or tacky at all and feels a bit like a lipstick. Even though it's not tacky, the staying power is decent. I've had this gloss on for about 3 to 4 hours before the product was completely gone.

I really enjoy both colors. Hot Pink is great for those days where I want a nice pop of color and Peony is great to pair with a smokey eye.

Review: Dior Addict Ultra Gloss

A current favorite gloss of mine as of late has to be my Dior Addict Ultra Gloss in Satin Peach. I really wanted a peachy nude gloss to wear on a everyday basis instead of my usual pinks and nudes and had heard rave reviews on this gloss because of its texture and non-stickiness. I was so happy to find this at my Sephora and snatched it right up.

Hyaluronic spheres keep lips smooth and moisturized, while mirror-like micropearls reflect light in all directions for a dazzling finish. What else you need to know:

This gloss is not sticky at all! It comes with a brush applicator compared to the regular doe foot applicator. The brush is soft and makes for precise application which is a plus. The packaging is divine. High class and sturdy. This gloss comes in twelve different shades and are all a nice sheer of color. I had about 8 different colors on my hands before I decided on Satin Peach. It actually reminds me of a better version of Urban Decay's Pocket Rocket (My review). There isn't that strong burnt sugar smell, rather it's a pleasant faint sweet smell.

It claims to plump your lips and it does to a certain extent. There is no strange stinging or tingling sensations on your lips. The "glass-like micro marbles of varying sizes" create the illusion of fuller lips. It's a slight illusion so don't expect Angelina lips if you have thinner lips. Another plus is that it's also moisturizing and doesn't make my lips peel.

The price tag is a hefty $26.50 USD. The markup is more for the name than anything else. This tube contains 0.21 fluid ounces which isn't bad. UD's Pocket Rocket does contain more for the price. They have 0.27 fluid ounces for $19 USD. The only other thing I would say that bothers me is the staying power; because it's not sticky it tends to fade faster than most but at this point I'm really picking at it.

Lioele Reviews!

This review has been a long time coming, like it was suppose to have been posted before I went to Vegas...so I'm really sorry about taking forever to post this! Now on to the review!

I had jumped on the Lioele bandwagon about two months ago when I watched the gorgeous guru, Jen's (frmheadtotoe) YouTube video about the line. YouTube brainwashes us, don't let anyone tell you otherwise lol. I got my products from Pretty & Cute (which is a pretty cute site and also the site that gave Jen the products to review). The delivery was pretty fast and Janie, the owner, also included free samples, (free is always great! ^__^)

From Left to Right: Lioele Beyond the Solution BB Cream, 3D Enamel Lipgloss in #2 Smokey Beige, Essential Donut Glo-Stick in Milky Pink

I'll start from left to right. The Lioele Beyond the Solution BB cream is pretty fantastic. It has medium coverage and really evens out your skin tone. It can even be used as a concealer after the first layer is applied all over your face. The packaging is also super cute and sanitary being that it contains a pump. The only thing that makes me really sad is the one color choice. Like most BB creams, this has only one shade. The color does blend a bit with my skin but I do find it a bit too light. I'm a NC25-30 during the winter and probably a NC35-40 in the summer when I'm tan. Being that I'll get tanner in the summer, this BB cream will definitely not work for me. (I don't forsee the pancake face look becoming chic anytime in the future.) For those of you gals who are on the paler side (NC20-25 maybe NC15) this will be fine for you. Another thing that you will notice is that UNlike other BB creams, this does not contain SPF. Lioele does have a BB cream that contains an SPF, but this isn't it.

Here's the cream blended in. As you can see it's a tad lighter than my skin. It's much more noticeable in the picture with the flash. I will say that the picture was taken right after I blended the cream in and that it does settle a bit and blends into your skin after a few minutes, but I still feel it's a bit too pale for me right now. In the winter though, I think this will be perfect for me.

The next thing I picked up was a lipgloss. This wasn't reviewed by Jen but it caught my eye when I was browsing the site. I love the scent of the lipgloss in all honesty, more than I like the color. It smells like this fruity Asian candy I used to eat as a kid so it brings some nostalgia. The gloss is fine to wear by itself, but I think that it adds a nice accent to a lipstick that's a tad to bright or dark. Here are the swatches:

The color is a milky nude. I thought it would be like the MAC Cremesheen in Boybait but it's a bit lighter and more opaque.

The brush isn't a doe foot applicator but I feel that it picks up more product on both sides of the brush.

The pigmentation of my lips still shows through, but I don't think it looks all that bad by itself.

The last product I picked up was a lipstick. I love this product. It doesn't feel like a lipstick at all, more like a lip balm that smoothes my lips. The Lioele Essential Donut Glo-Stick (boy what a mouthful haha) has cute pink packaging and is great for some color on your lips. This lipstick is suppose to control the dead skin cells that form and also makes your lips soft. I really believe that it does make my lips softer. There is a slight floral scent but it's not that noticeable unless you really put your nose close to the lipstick. The color I picked up is called Milky Pink. Now I don't think it's all that milky but it is a nice shade of pink. It's more of a light rose color.
